There’s a lot of talk about Joe Manchin switching parties, and most Republicans are giddy over the prospect.  I can understand why Dem-loving Republicans like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy would welcome Manchin into the GOP, but true conservatives should discourage the idea.

Why?  Because Manchin is a Democrat at heart, and if he were a Republican, he would just be another unreliable vote (think Romney, Flake, Murkowski, et al).  The GOP already has too many wishy-washy types in its ranks, those unprincipled souls who make permanent Democrat control possible.

If Joe Manchin made the switch, all it would accomplish is give Republicans a false sense of gaining an additional Senate seat, when in reality they would just be gaining another John McCain.
