Whenever you feel intimidated into …

Whenever you feel intimidated into going along with a new fad, a new idea that has gained wide acceptance, or the latest “in” thing, you are getting yourself into the dreaded conformity trap.

When you do something just because “everybody else is doing it,” your action is motivated by the fear of standing apart from the herd. As every concerned parent knows, teenagers are especially prone to such misguided actions. But, fortunately, you are not a teenager — and, best of all, you have free will.

Remember, just because something is in vogue doesn’t make it better or worse. It only means that more people are doing it, wearing it, or saying it.

And if you should decide upon a different course of action, that doesn’t make you better or worse either. Nor does it make you inferior, stupid, or weird. All it means is that you’re comfortable enough with who you are to base your actions on your own independent thinking.

Vigilance highly recommended in this area of your life.
