Fingers Crossed

Donald Trump has made a huge number of declarations about what he plans to accomplish once he takes office, which has helped fuel an optimism I haven’t seen since the early days of the Reagan administration. I’m all in on Trump’s agenda, but there’s one caveat: When you let the world know that you’re going to quickly end two long-running wars in far-off countries, deport millions of illegals, and maybe even snatch the Panama Canal, buy Greenland, and make Canada the 51st state, you’re bound to cause leftwing barbarians to froth at the mouth and howl at the moon.
Lefties will be what they will be, so it’s wise just to ignore them rather than try to educate or rehabilitate them. I’m much more concerned about Trump voters becoming impatient, because rebuilding a country that Democrats have spent years trying to destroy cannot be accomplished overnight. No doubt Americans will see some progress immediately, but they’re likely to become impatient if any of Trump’s more important agenda items fail to be completely implemented, which is what happened with his border wall project the first time around.
At the top of the list of promises that will likely take time to show meaningful results is a reduction in overall prices. Inflation is a complicated economic science, but let it suffice to say that the three items that have the best chance of making a dent in prices are a reduction in government spending (which would slow the unfettered creation of paper currency), a drastic reduction in taxes, and an even bigger reduction in government regulations.
Sealing the border, mass deportations, a dramatic increase in oil production, and ending the Zelensky gravy train — as well as billions of dollars in other foreign giveaways — are also actions that should put downward pressure on prices in Trump’s first year of his new presidency, but how long it will take for such actions to have a major impact on inflation remains to be seen.
That said, I continue to believe that the most important item on Trump’s agenda should be the combo of closing the border, mass deportations (not just criminal deportations!), and ironclad voter-registration laws. It’s imperative that Trump and Republicans start working on legislation to secure elections immediately, not six months before the 2026 midterms or the 2028 presidential election, because if Republicans don’t win elections, nothing else matters. Michael Whatley and Lara Trump did a superb job of fending off Democrat cheating in the last election, but it would be unwise to believe that future elections will now be secure. So long as there are Democrats roaming the earth, election cheating will remain a reality.
When it comes to securing elections, two of the most massive frauds ever perpetrated on the American people — birthright citizenship and chain migration — need to come to an end. Contrary to what Democrats and their media allies have been telling us for years, the way these two programs are carried out today is blatantly unconstitutional. They are nothing more than scams that allow Democrats to continue replenishing their voter base for future elections.
In the meantime, if there were any doubts in your mind about whether or not Democrats will continue to implement schemes to stifle Trump’s best-laid plans, they should have been dispelled by their embarrassing declaration that they intend to stop him from taking office because he is guilty of — you guessed it — insurrection. Forget the fact that the Supreme Court already ruled that Trump must remain on the ballot in Colorado, Maine, and a number of other states that beclowned themselves by declaring him to be ineligible. Not a problem for Democrats, of course, because they could care less about Supreme Court rulings. All that matters to them is that they believe he is guilty of insurrection.
Even though this idiotic attempt to overturn the results of the last election isn’t going anywhere, it’s a stark reminder that Democrats are willing to do anything to blow up the Trump presidency. Armies of Democrat lawyers are already laying the groundwork to stall or block many of his efforts by filing an avalanche of lawsuits. In addition, demonic Democrats in the House and Senate are beating the anti-Trump drums, and the legacy media is increasingly making it clear that it has no intention of changing course. Worst of all, the deep state is preparing to dig in its heels and fight to the death to protect its lucrative turf.
For all these reasons and more, Republicans cannot afford to continue their timid ways and cruise into the 2026 midterms. It’s critical that they send a message to Democrat lawbreakers that they are going to be held accountable for their crimes. Hopefully, they understand that Democrats who have been pardoned can still be subpoenaed, and if they lie under oath, it’s a crime that is not covered by their pardons. While inflation, the border invasion, et al will take time to bear fruit, bringing down the hammer on those who have committed crimes is something that can be done quickly.
Unfortunately, to get started on all this, Republicans are probably going to have to hold their noses and allow Mike Johnson to remain as speaker. It’s frustrating, but Trump should be able to keep him in check long enough to get his agenda into high gear. The bottom line is that now that MAGA dominates politics and culture in America, you can expect impatience to be the order of the day, which might actually be a good thing, because Donald Trump is at his best when he’s under pressure. It probably would have been a good idea if he had under promised and over delivered on his timetable, but that’s just not him, so crossing our fingers will have to do.
