The Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi once wrote that even Jesus fled from the fool, saying, “I can make the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame run and raise the dead, but I cannot turn the fool away from his folly.”  His words are every bit as relevant today as they were 800 years ago, possibly more so.

Consider diehard Democrats who believe candy canes grow on trees and unicorns will soon replace horses.  In their fantasy world, men can become women and women can become men simply by saying so.  Foolish, of course, but the biggest reason Democrats are fools is because they believe they are morally superior to their enemies and are therefore safe from the mob.

They apparently don’t know much about Robespierre, the man who led the French Revolution.  Like today’s totalitarian Democrats, Robespierre undoubtedly thought he was safe from the mob because he believed he was morally superior.  That turned out to be a bad assumption.  To his chagrin, the bloodthirsty Jacobins eventually turned on him and he ended up on the guillotine, the same fate he had helped mete out to King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and 17,000 other “enemies of the revolution.”

Now, after years of running wild and trying to destroy their enemies, today’s Jacobin Democrats are starting to eat their own.  Nancy Pelosi is blaming the Squad for the demise of the Democrats, the most radical Dems want Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin banished from the party, and a majority of Dems want Joe and Kamala removed from office as quickly as possible to head off crushing defeats that are sure to come in 2022 and 2024.

Many conservatives believe that Democrats will eventually wake up and realize that Americans don’t want what they’re selling.  What they don’t understand is that Democrats have no interest in what people want.  Totalitarianism is about force.  What they care about is power, because to the extent they have power they can force their perceived enemies to accept their view of the world.  Fools do not wake up.  That’s why we call them fools.

Unfortunately, many Republicans are even greater fools for clinging to the folly that once they achieve power, they can reach out to Democrats and work together to get things done for the people who voted them into office.  Such a fantasy only proves that regardless of political affiliation, fools cannot be turned away from their follies.
