During our ongoing invisible depression …

During our ongoing invisible depression, I’ve observed many successful, naïve people delude themselves into believing they’re infallible. They aren’t. The most important time to be alert is when you’re at or near the top.

Allowing yourself to get lulled into a false sense of security by all the luxuries, adulation, and opportunities suddenly available to you is dangerous, because it’s at that precise moment that you’re in the greatest danger of losing it all.

Why? Because competitors are plotting to take away your customers, Murphy’s Law is lying in wait, and government capriciousness is just around the corner. Above all, circumstances are guaranteed to continually change, and if you aren’t ready for never-ending change, you’re likely to get blindsided.

David Seabury was so right when he warned that “Fate sits on the other side of the table watching your moves. … Make your moves according to the shifts of fortune, play by play.”

Never underestimate the cunning and relentlessness of Fate when it comes to placing unforeseen obstacles in your path. It rarely disappoints.
