Tiptoeing Through the Tulips Ends for Romney
By Robert Ringer - Friday, December 2, 2011
For the first time ever, I almost felt sorry for Mitt Romney as I watched him suffer through his recent interview with Bret Baier. When Baier asked him about the subject he dreads most — Romneycare — I thought he might defecate on camera. Fortunately, he didn’t … that I know of.
What he did do, however, was turn beet red — not out of embarrassment, but anger. But Baier was just getting started. Pointing out that Romney has been on both sides of “some” issues — little things such as abortion, climate change, immigration, and gay rights — Baier asked, “How can voters trust is [sic] what they hear from you today is what you will believe if you win the White House?”
Romney got, shall we say, a bit testy — better yet, petulant — and dismissed the question by saying, “Your list is just not accurate, so, one, we’re going to have to be better informed about my views on issues.” Use of the word we’re made him come across as a principal scolding a naughty student.
Baier then played clips of Romney at his best when it comes to contradicting his positions on various issues. I crossed my fingers that Bret was smart enough to be wearing a bullet-proof vest. Three of Romney’s hairs flopped out of place (or maybe they flipped out of place … not sure which), and he appeared to be on the verge of apoplexy.
Later, appearing on Bill O’Reilly, Baier said that after the interview Romney complained to him that his questions were “uncalled for” and “overly aggressive.” Really? I wonder how he’d classify the attacks that would be forthcoming from outfits like The New York Times and NBC if he were to find himself up against Barack Obama.
I’m surprised that a smart mannequin … er, I mean, man … like Mitt Romney apparently believed he could tiptoe his way through the entire primary season without being eviscerated. Unless you happen to be Barack Obama, it’s pretty hard to defend yourself when your flips, your flops, your lies, and your hypocrisies are available for the whole world to see on YouTube.
Nevertheless, Romney should count his blessings. Ron Paul’s recent drone attack could have been on him rather than Newt Gingrich. But hold on … that may be the next shoe to drop.
