A Higher Loyalty?

With a number of Republican senators set to vote in support of a House resolution disapproving of President Trump’s emergency declaration over the southern border, they’re putting him in a position where he has no choice but to cast his first veto.  It seems as though no matter how many Flakes and McCains you manage to get rid of, there are always more opposition Republicans waiting in the wings to take their place.

Of course, when Republicans cast their dissenting votes against their own party, their words always make it clear that they believe they are acting out of principle.  They want everyone to know that they’re much more noble than the other members of their party.  So what if they aid the Democrats in their resistance?  The important thing is that they’re following the honorable James Comey’s advice and have chosen “a higher loyalty.”

Sounds nice, I guess, but there’s a huge flaw in the thinking of Republicans who refuse to support the president’s agenda.  While they like to say they were sent to Washington to represent their constituents, they ignore the fact that one of the most important things those constituents sent them to do, as overwhelmingly evidenced by current polls, was help the president get his agenda implemented.

One of the worst excuses the neocon naysayers use to vote against their own party is that if Republicans pass this or that bill, when Democrats regain power they’ll turn right around and use it against Republicans.  Sounds reasonable, but in truth it’s nothing more than a red herring.

Why?  Because the overriding factor they can’t seem to grasp is that we’re at war — literally!  The enemy is working night and day to erase the United States of America as we’ve known it for most of the past 243 years, and you guys are fretting over what a Democratic president might do down the road?

C’mon, man.  Forget the theoretical stuff.  The best way to avoid giving up executive power is to vote like Republicans and not be afraid of what a Democratic president might do in the future.  This is where even the well-meaning Rand Paul gets it wrong.  He spends too much time worrying about the future while the Dirty Dems — even when they don’t control the executive branch — are burning down the country now.

Message to self-righteous Republicans:  Every time one of you guys tries to become the next Jeff Flake, just know that the Dirty Dems are yukking it up behind closed doors — as in, “Suckers!”  This is an emergency, right here and now, so spare us the self-righteousness and speculation about the next Democratic president and grab a fire hose!

To borrow the legendary Robert Shaw’s favorite words from The Sting, “Ya folla?”
