Core Beliefs
No matter how self evident a concept may seem, the true philosopher must always admit that the starting point of his philosophy is but an opinion. The opinion the philosopher uses as his premise may be rational or irrational, popular or unpopular, strongly supported by evidence, or grounded in little more than mysticism. Regardless, in the final analysis, the initial premise of any philosophy can never rightfully be classified as anything other than an opinion.
The initial premise underlying the philosophy of this Web site is that every man owns his own life and therefore has the right to do anything he wishes with that life, so long as he does not forcibly interfere with the life of any other person. Put another way, every human being has the right of self choice, but self choice does not include the right to commit aggression against others.
We all have core beliefs that affect the way we interact with the world around us. Unfortunately, however, many people do not take the time to reflect on their core beliefs, which causes them to develop a point of view — and make important decisions — based on an unsound system of beliefs. By contrast, the wise person has a clear and conscious understanding of the core beliefs upon which he bases his actions.
With this in mind, the four essays below will help you to understand the foundational beliefs upon which this Web site has been created. Further, it is my hope that they will broaden your perspective of the world and motivate you to contemplate your own belief system.
