Caveat Emptor, Republicans

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Van Jones appears at CPAC for an exchange of ideas with American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp.  To put it mildly, I was pleasantly surprised by both his words and demeanor.  The Radical Left must have been throwing hammers and sickles at their TV sets when Jones suddenly confessed, “My mind has been changed.  My heart has been changed.  My understanding of what we [Democrats and Republicans] can do together has been changed.”

Whoa!  My first thought was, “I hope Jones owns a bulletproof vest.”  Being civil to enemies of the Radical Left is a crime punishable by disinvitation to Democratic cocktail parties and fundraising events.  It also opens one up to career-ending Twitter storms.  And, of course, no more rubbing shoulders with left-wing celebrities.

I don’t know if Van Jones can overcome years of Radical Left brain disorientation enough to make the long journey to the liberty side of the ideological spectrum — as did Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, and, more recently, Candace Owens — but I guess stranger things  have happened.

However, even if Van Jones were to make a safe leap to intellectual freedom, he’s just one person.  Converting massive numbers of leftists to the right side of the ideological spectrum is a gargantuan task that happens at a glacial pace.  The reason it takes so long is because the conversion from left to right is really a conversion from irrationality to rationality, and if a person has been irrational most of his life, morphing into a rational human being is about as easy as converting copper into gold.

How do you get an irrational person to grasp the fact that collectivism, big government, and repression of speech with which you disagree are immoral?  How do you teach an irrational person that victimization creates dependency and poverty, encourages tribalism, scorns individual success, and cheers the ongoing failure of government welfare programs?

The only hope is for Republicans, as feckless as they may be, to first of all stay in power, and Democrats are well aware of that.  Which is why they are now laying the groundwork to circumvent the electoral college with something called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

It’s an outrageous proposal that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago, but is now gaining momentum.  No less than 12 states and the District of Columbia (of course) have joined the march to further usurp the Constitution.  John Roberts must be having a judicial orgasm in the privacy of his chambers.  It’s yet another attempt by the Dirty Dems to ignore the Constitution and get their way by hook or by crook — usually by crook.

Proponents of the measure to abolish the electoral college insist that the defeats of Al Gore and Horrible Hillary, both of whom technically won the popular vote, were results the Founding Fathers never intended when they ensconced Article 2, Section 1 in the Constitution.  But nothing could be further from the truth.  On the contrary, these results — Hillary’s defeat, in particular — are precisely why the electoral college was created.

To repeat what I said about this in my article “Are the Polls Wrong Again?” back in August of 2017:

When Horrible Hillary got 4 million more votes than Trump in California, what it actually meant was:  ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  It’s much like baseball, a game in which a ten-run win is worth no more than a one-run win.  Thus, whether you win by one vote or 4 million votes in California, you still get the same number of electoral votes — 55.  In other words, just about all of those 4 million excess votes Hillary captured were wasted.

The Founding Fathers were prescient, indeed, in that they seem to have anticipated the emergence of a rogue state like California when they determined that elections should be decided by the electoral college.  As the Dirty Dems discovered in 2016, people in Wyoming, Kansas, Texas, et al have no interest in being controlled by the social justice champions who run California, New York, Illinois, or any of the other blue states whose leaders are obsessed with racism, LGBT rights, nonexistent global warming, and redistribution-of-wealth schemes, and it’s the electoral college that protects them from such tyranny.

In simple terms, if the electoral college is circumvented, the entire population of the United States would be ruled by the most radical, anti-American, mentally unstable citizens (and non-citizens!) in the country.  Are Republicans never going to learn how to communicate a simple truth like this to the masses?

Any casual student of history knows that majority rule is a euphemism for tyranny of the majority.  Let’s be honest here:  What the Dirty Dems really want is to do away with elections altogether and install a left-wing dictatorship that would allow them to call all the shots and, yes, imprison those who disagree with their radical-left agenda.  Any professed conservative or libertarian who does not believe this is naïve to an extreme.

That said, while I hate to rely on Republicans to fight for my freedom, the reality is that there aren’t any other realistic options.  Right now, it’s really the 32 members of the House Freedom Caucus who are standing firm against the forces of tyranny, but the rest of the Republican congresspeople cannot be counted on.

So, what do we do about this dilemma?  In my view, since we can’t convert Democrats fast enough to stem the tide of Radical Left authoritarianism, the best place to start is to terminate as many RINOs as possible and replace them with team players who can be counted on to always vote with Republicans.  Specifically, the pursuit of that objective should begin by primarying the worst of the bad apples — shameless miscreants like Romney, Rubio, Murkowski, Collins, et al.  (PLEASE spare me bringing up Susan Collins’ “heroic” speech during the Kavanaugh hearings, as my digestive system can’t handle it.)

What a sad and stupid thing it was for Republicans, through no efforts of their own, to finally be freed of John McCain’s predictable no vote on crucial issues, only to turn right around and saddle itself with the most venomous establishment politician on the planet, Malevolent Mitt.  I realize that President Trump was trying to humor Romney into behaving when he endorsed him, but Romney also realized what he was doing and it obviously made him hate Trump all the more.

What Trump should have done instead was actively campaign for Mike Kennedy, a conservative Republican who challenged Romney in the Utah primary, and I said so at the time.  Romney’s actions since his election could not have been any more destructive had Trump campaigned against him.  This kind of Republican naiveté and timidity has to stop if the Dirty Dems are to be kept away from the levers of power.

Even Rand Paul, who I personally like, has to be made to understand that voting on principle is nice and all that, but principle is out the window when you’re at war.  The enemy loves it when Republicans act like principled Boy Scouts and join forces with the Dirty Dems.  Lenin would have been proud of such useful idiots.

Again, Republicans can’t afford to sit around and wait for a Van Jones — or a hundred Van Joneses — to see the light and convert.  The enemy is not only insidious and evil, it’s also insane and desperate — so insane and so desperate that it is fully prepared to go scorched earth if that’s what it takes to gain solid control of all three branches of government.  Always remember that Rule No. 1 in the Democrat playbook is to simply ignore all existing rules and laws.

Caveat emptor, Republicans — and do be sure to keep your powder dry.
