Are Conservatives Losing Their Minds?

By Robert Ringer - Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Otherwise dependable conservatives appear to be losing their minds in their zeal to vanquish the media-created first family from the White House.  Ann Coulter, a one-time paragon of hard-core conservatism, has confirmed a growing suspicion that she possesses a latent liberal streak.  By endorsing and singing the praises of Mitt-the-Flip, her open affection for left-wing nasties like Joy Behar and Bill Maher no longer appear to be anomalies.

Not one to leave bad enough alone, Coulter did a spin piece last week on Romney’s Obamacare model titled “Three Cheers for Romneycare,” which ended with, “Romney is the most electable candidate not only because it will be nearly impossible for the media to demonize this self-made Mormon square, devoted to his wife and church, but precisely because he is the most conservative candidate.”

It was something one might have expected to be written by that other blond — the one with the bird’s nest on her head — Debbie WassHerName.  The article was so far out on the left limb of the political tree that it must have brought tears of joy to Michael Moore.

Coulter’s statement that “No one is claiming that the Constitution gives each person an unalienable right not to buy insurance” caused me to have an optical migraine.  The Constitution doesn’t give people the right not to buy insurance?  Huh?

It’s painful to break this to you, Ann, but the Constitution doesn’t grant any rights to anyone.  The primary purpose of the Constitution is to protect the natural rights of all citizens — specifically referred to in the Declaration of Independence as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  If you don’t possess the right to not buy something, the corollary is that the government can force you to buy anything.

I guess if someone wanted to defend Ann Coulter for making such a radical, left-wing statement, he could argue that she sincerely believes Romney is “the most electable” candidate.  Alas, he is not.  In fact, I would go so far as to say that of the four remaining candidates (and, yes, there are four), he might run neck and neck with Newt Gingrich as the least electable candidate.  (Forget about the polls.  They are only snapshots of what people are thinking today — not next November.)

Now Donald Trump, displaying his true statist nature, has vigorously jumped on the Romney bandwagon.  He not only endorsed MittMan, he waived aside Rick Santorum for having the audacity to try to win the Republican nomination.

Trump wants to know why anyone who got voted out of office so overwhelmingly as Santorum did when he was an incumbent senator would be so presumptuous as to believe he should run for president.  Apparently, The Donald hasn’t studied the biggest political loser of all time, Abraham Lincoln, who lost eight elections before he won the presidency.

Of course, Trump is still vaguely hinting that if Romney, or at least Gingrich, doesn’t get the nomination, he might run as a third-party candidate.  Listening to Trump continuing to milk this hollow PR threat makes one suspect that he’s studied Hitler’s infamous propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, who once said:  “Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”

In fact, Trump could have taught Goebbels a thing or two about using the media to promote his big, bad “You’re fired!” image.  He’s been playing the media like a keyboard since day one of the Republican presidential race, without ever having the slightest intention of running for president.

But getting back to conservatives losing their minds, it would be unfair not to mention the Master of Madness, Nutty Newt.  Gingrich has more than fulfilled the expectations of those who have known him best throughout his career.  No one questions his brilliance or verbal skills, but neither of these has proven to be a match for his childish vindictiveness, arrogance, and total lack of self-discipline.

Newt gave off Rocky-like vibes in his climb from the Republican swamplands to the status of front runner after winning South Carolina.  And Republican voters were so desperate to find an alternative to Romney that all Newt needed to do to win the nomination was waive aside Massachusetts Mitt’s avalanche of attack ads with some of his best spin lines, assure Republican primary voters that he admired Mitt Romney and was not about to violate Ronald Reagan’s eleventh commandment, and continue to come up with brilliant-sounding, off-the-cuff lines about “big ideas.”

Had Newt done all this, I believe he could have coasted through the primaries and easily won the nomination with the backing of desperate anti-Romney, anti-Obama Republicans.  Sadly, however, he self-destructed because he simply could not control his urge to lash out at Romney and, in addition, say bizarre and outrageous things.

Which brings us, finally, to Rick Santorum, perhaps the last obstacle between Romney and his anointment as the Republican presidential nominee.  Sure, Santorum has a few sins under his belt — most notably being a staunch defender of earmarks — but the field (other than Ron Paul) is so bad that he’s starting to look pretty good to a lot of conservatives.

Nevertheless, the increasing number of conservatives who are losing their minds may simply be too much for him to overcome.  After all, they’ve already succeeded in doing what seemed almost impossible just a short time ago — raise Barack Obama’s favorable ratings back up to 48 percent, even as he continues to shred the Constitution, trample on religious rights, and destroy what is left of the U.S. economy.

Crazed Republicans need a true conservative with an impeccable background to stand up and say, “I am someone who can keep my head when all about me are losing theirs and blaming it on everyone else.”

And, believe it or not, there’s still time for such a person to make his/her appearance.  Everyone who attended CPAC last week was reminded of that when the ghost of Sarah Palin succeeded in doing what Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich could not do: work the conservative crowd into a red-meat frenzy.

Stay tuned.  I hear that the fat lady has decided to stop warming up.

    “Ann Coulter, a one-time paragon…”

Holding up Ann as a former model of excellence demonstrates just how awful the Grand Orwellian Party (GOP) has become. Like I said before, Ann reminds me of Dracula’s wife(s) in the Movie Van Helsing. She has the look, laugh, vibe, morals and hiss of a bloodsucker. Ann fits right into the Faux News den of vampires. The GOP of vampires loves her and she loves them, especially that corporatist vampire named Mitt who is better know as Sh*tt among those of us who still believe in free-market capitalism and individual liberty.

The vampirical Murdoch empire is finally getting some light shined on it via the “Sun” scandal. The bobble-headed press at Faux News whore themselves out on a regular bases to anybody who views the “genuine principles” of the Constitution as anachronistic.

My advice is get used to reading and hearing individuals make the statement, “Are Conservatives Losing Their Minds?”

My answer would be, what minds? Those vampires just axed Judge Andrew Napolitano’s show, “Freedom Watch.” Napalitano is one of the few pet humans left over at Faux News. Really, what did you expect from vampires. Ann will probably get her own show now as a reward for whoring herself out to Sh*tt.

  2. Devereaux says:

Fox is not the problem. Nor is Coulter.

These are just opinions and are as right or wrong as yours or mine.

The problem is that we live in a society where free thought is punished, not celebrated. Where thought is confined to sound bites or the simple option of either agreeing or disagreeing with the opinions of others.

Even you, sir, often merely parrot the opinions of those you agree with. As a reality seeker you seem more intent on pressing an opinion than on seeking a truth.

We live in strange times. I long for the return to considered argument based on fact, not opinion.

I doubt I will see that again in my lifetime.

And that is simply my opinion.

    …..devereaux

    • Reality Seeker says:

Not only will I parrot, I will also quote those whom I think are worth quoting. And there is one of whom I will not quote– Little Venom, aka Ann Coulter.

Faux News is not “the” problem, it is a problem. CNN is a problem. MSNBC is a problem. CNBC is a problem.

If you would like a kinder gentler argument from me, forget it. Forget about it, because I want the guillotine absent the French Revolution. A trial, a jury and a guillotine for the traitors……. How’s that, devereaux? Have you ever heard that before?—A trial, a jury and a guillotine?

You are going to hear and read worse if you live long enough. There is going to be a point when many people would rather see a French Revolution than no revolution. I won’t partake, but I won’t stand in the way if it comes to that.

“The bank,” Jackson told Martin Van Buren, “is trying to kill me, but I will kill it!”

History is once again rhyming. Big banks, big government and big cartels in general are killing both freedom and people. The presstitute shills are standing by doing a little of nothing while the Constitution is being suspended Amendment by Amendment.

The haters of the Constitution don’t want the rule of natural law? They don’t want the Magna Carta? They want to roll back the clock to a time without human rights? They want to steal the wealth of the producers and reward the parasites? Fine, let them have the resulting barbaric/frontier justice that comes with the territory.

  3. Hillfarmer says:

“The Constitution doesn’t give people the right not to buy insurance.”
The real point here is the Constitution does not give the federal government the power to force citizens to buy insurance.

Rights come from God not the Constitution. The Constition or the Bill of Rights prohibit the federal government from infringing on those rights.

Ron Paul is the only Republican who can beat Oboma. Paul is the only one who is substantially different then Oboma. Besides, many Ron Paul supporters will not vote for any other Republican candidate in the general election. I have quit voting for the lesser of two evils. Those who participate in this election only because they hate Oboma better see to it that Paul is nominated. I do not support Paul because I hate Oboma; I support Paul because I love freedom. Paul is the only candidate who supports freedom over big government

If the Republicans want the support of freedom loving Democrats, freedom loving-Republicans, independents and libertarians they must nominate Ron Paul. If they don’t have that support they will give Oboma a second term.

The discussion is over in this election the next president will be either Ron Paul or Oboma. Take your choice and get over it.

    • Bill Zimmerly says:

      Well written, Hillfarmer.

    • Bryan says:

Here, here! I’m amazed when someone tells me that Ron Paul is not electable. He’s been elected 12 times, which is probably more than the rest of the clowns combined, though I’ll need to check my facts on that point. Anyway, Ron Paul is the only candidate I can vote for in good conscience. The rest of them are just gaming the system, in my humble opinion.

      • Bart Murray says:

I whole-heartedly agree with Bryan, Ron Paul is the clear choice if you care about the future of America.

  4. Sean St Charles says:

I would have liked to have seen a little more reference and support to Paul in this article. Where is he in regards to conservatives? Will the lack of media attention starve his chance for the general election? The GOP secretly knows he speaks the truth yet they cower away lest they lose credibility. I believe many of them will secretly vote for Paul once in the ballot box. I’m holding on to that vision.

  5. Absurd statements like that made by Coulter simply decry the state of our knowledge of the constitution and our abdication of the responsibility each of us has to govern ourselves under it.The government of this country was designed to be “by- of, and for” us, not our elected reps, who are supposed to represent us, but who have increasingly sold out to mega-corps to represent THEIR interests.
Time to wake up, folks, READ your constitution, and see just how far the government has moved from its “limited powers”.

  6. topeka says:

    Robert,

The Nutty Professor indeed has strengths, and he seems like the sort of guy you could have a beer with.

    But you pegged him.

Between space colonies and Rombama-bashing and whining… who needs the Pelosi on a Couch.

Newt is one-man walking SNL skit – and a target rich environment for all stand-up comics.

Leaving us with Rombama, Sanctimonium, and Paul.

    We are so qrwtwtdgdghhdu….

    • topeka says:

      p.s.

I miss your columns Robert – I like reading Sowell, and Malkin, and even Kudlow is good for a laugh, but your columns are well written, clear, and show solid-well thought out libertarian positions without the vitriol, wind-mill tilting, and anti-semitism which occasionally mars the “Libertarian” position.

      Feel free to write more!

      Just sayin…

  7. Bill Zimmerly says:

I’ve written this on every Fox News thread I could on Facebook…

Why is Fox News, for the most part, advocating a man for President that has…

    (1) said he would sign the NDAA (overturning our 4th and 5th Amendment rights)

    (2) has advocated all of the anti-2nd Amendment issues that Americans loathe (he SUPPORTED the Brady Bill for cry’in out loud!)

    (3) has flipped and flopped on the abortion issue – appointed pro-abortion Judges to his State courts – and countless other issues that “conservatives” seem ready to jettison in the mad rush to remove Obama

    (4) advocated for AND signed the equivalent of Obamacare for his state

    (5) was governor of a state derisively known as “Taxechusets” for good reason and it was 47th in Job Growth

…have you ALL lost your minds????

  8. Pete DiOrio says:

    Beware of Sanctimonious Santorum:

From NewsWithViews.com Kelleigh Nelson Feb 12

    HOW SANTORUM VIEWS GOVERNMENT

Rick Santorum made this statement, “One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in the cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

Well now excuse me Rick, but isn’t that what America was founded on, INDIVIDUALISM? Are you saying you prefer Obama’s form of collectivism and communitarianism? Sure does sound like it since you and Hillary Clinton are the only two people who are directly attacking the “pursuit of happiness.” You are no constitutionalist, fiscal conservative or small government politician…you are exactly the opposite.

    • DKendra says:

So far, I can’t find where Kelleigh Nelson got this quote. I mentioned it to a friend, and he didn’t believe Santorum said it. Where was Santorum when he made this quote; what was going on that made him say this? Where / what is her source of this quote?

      • DKendra says:

I finally found where this quote came from: an interview on NPR in 2005. That was seven years ago. Someone needs to ask him if he still feels this way. If he does, THEN we have something to work with.

  9. Lawrence says:

The mind altering schools and colleges have done their jobs very well. America is ripe for a take over by the antichrist. Even so, come LORD Jesus!

  10. Thunderbell says:

I think Mitt’s biggest problem may be that he actually won an election in “Taxechusets.” It seems lots of conservatives just assume that because he was Governor he was responsible for everything that happened in the State. Don’t forget he had a legislature which was 80% Democrat.

I don’t live in Mass but I do business there and believe it or not there are conservatives there. Every conservative I know there says that Romney was the best thing to happen in Mass., in the last 50 years. They believe he is a true conservative. They agree with Ann.

A lot of this “Romney is a Liberal” talk is knee-jerk and, as stated by another poster here, opinion NOT based in fact. I wonder if some of it might even be Huckabee style religious bigotry?

    • topeka says:

      Thunderbell,

depends on where you’re standing or laying…

if someone has a jackboot on your neck, and a guy comes along and pushes him off, you would probably be grateful and call him anything he wants to be called… hero, Santa Claus, “conservative,” or whatever.

For those of us who have felt the jackboot on our throat in the last 4 or 8 or 16 years – we want someone who will do something about it – not someone who will say…

“in “Taxatwosetts” we don’t need your kind… what are you rubes complaining of?”

Up in Yankee land – those survivors of regumalation – are grateful for Rombama’s version of salvation…

Here in Texas, we are the Golden Geese in danger of being slaughtered and we don’t appreciate being ignored or misrepresented or libeled by a Dukakis(R)… who will do nothing about the crime rate, the govt hiring bias, the border, or the regumalations…

      Just sayin…

  11. SCSharon says:

Thank you for articulating our disappointment in this election season. This is the first time I had really examined Ron Paul as a candidate…It seemed odd to me that a legitimate candidate’s information was constantly overlooked, skipped and discounted, even when he got quite a large amount of votes. Upon investigation, it seemed he was remarkably sincere and consistent for a politician. Sticking with unpopular positions, standing alone, not pandering to the media moguls. He even predicted the downturn in ’08, and, is the only candidate to actually address ‘the gorilla in the room’ with seriousness. (The Fed & the destruction of our monetary system.) Without a sound monetary system, Iran and nukes, marijuana, and all those side issues are minor. We need to clean house in the Senate, as well, get the RINOS out of power, and get to work fixing this ship before it sinks.
If God decides to come and straighten things out first, that would be great, but people have thought that for the last 2,000 yrs., and He told us to keep busy till He does come back. Hope people aren’t using that as an excuse.

  12. Hillfarmer could not have said it any better than I. Ron Paul is clearly the only candidate that can beat Obama. Why can’t you ivory-tower wanna-bes get it through your thick skulls? We do not have time to mess around, our very existence as a nation depends on voting for Ron Paul!

  13. Theresa says:

You haven’t been writing much lately Robert, and you are very much missed. I like the other writers —- but they are not you.

Also, I wish you would write more about Ron Paul. I really think he could turn this country around because he would do what is necessary. I don’t however think he is as “popular” because most people don’t really want to face what has to be done to get back on track — much less do it.

  14. Gill O’Teen says:

We must forgive Ann’s silliness. She is too young to have gone to San Francisco wearing flowers in her hair. Her parents didn’t let her keep David Cassidy posters on her bedroom wall, nor could she ever scream out her lungs at a Beatles’ concert. So now all that repressed teenybopper energy is manifest in her going all weak brained over crispy chrysty. When the New Jersey guv broke her heart, she looked for the remaining RINO most like him to get a crush upon. The lucky winner was mitzy. Now she wets her pants whenever she hears his voice just hoping he’ll show her some love by tossing a sweaty sock or jock strap her way.

She has lost all credibility and nowadays is only good for a giggle.

  15. Barry says:

How do we sum up the rise of Romney?
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King…

  16. Brent says:

Any time you hear someone say that a particular person is a Democrat or Republican when they are apparently running on the other side, ask yourself what would happen if that person ran for president as an independent. Ask yourself who would not want them running. If the Republicans would not want them to run then they are a Republican. If a Republican would *like* him to run (or if the Democrats do not want him to run) he is a Democrat. Whoever fears that person skimming votes off of their side’s nominated candidate is telling you something they cannot or will not say outright.

Most of the Republican media fears Ron Paul running as an independent because they know da#n well that he is bona fide Republican enough to take a significant amount of Republican voters. That is not what talk radio or Fox has been telling you, is it? What they actually fear is that the voters themselves might have some say or influence on what a Republican should be like instead of them. Or to put it more bluntly, they fear us living in a Democratic Republic.

  17. jerome says:

Ann Coulter is a damned joke, and that has been my opinion of her for a long time. Anybody who has a contract with FAUX News is suspect of being a BS Artist.

  18. Mike Rael says:

I have had respect for Ms Coulter in the past. I would appreciate a link to *precisely* what Ms Coulter said (about the Constitution not forbidding us from forcing products or services onto people) and what the context was.

  19. Bullwink33 says:

Howdy, they haven’t banned me from this forum yet, Robert you have saved my life so many times I feel like a cat…….
But the most “Ringing endorsement” that convinced me to read “looking out for #1″ was Ann Landers ” basically good common sense” apparently sense isn’t all that common……..
Seems we just want to stir the pot here
Mittman was a moderate conservative governor in a LIBERAL STATE
I’ve had more money at times than TRUMP and most of the time I’m bankrupt….
AS the Dufus said ” it’s the economy *tupid !”
I teach martial arts (not fighting !) to overcome your adversary you need to study them, out smart them.
Locally here in Boston in the recent mayorial election a Brilliant young candidate , SAM YUN was defeated, while sporting exceptional credentials and a proven track record, was easily eliminated in the primary election because a third candidate split the vote.
if you come out swinging, protect your crotch….
Mittman tithes to his church , and continues to prosper, HAS A TRACK RECORD WITH $$$$ , tits THE ECONOMY *TUPID”
MITT’S THE GUY WHO CAN WIN, Lincoln got himself shot and was a lawyer…….the Public thinks smart people rob them, the truth is that they just support themselves,,,,

  20. Robert Almstrom says:

OK, Robert, your columns are precisely targeted and to the point. So now PLESAE tells us what is the solution?
    Bob

  21. Ken Okko says:

The solution is Plain, Simple and Essential: Support, Promote and Elect Ron Paul! He is the only candidate bucking The Establishment and maintaining his Oath of Office and the military where we promise to honor and defend Our Constitution. I have been a fan of his for over 32+ years and everything that he has ever said and done has been honest, truthful, correct and if favor of the Am people. He is the exact opposite of THE ESTABLISHMENT. IMO

  22. hal says:

… just keep in mind: Ron Paul is CRAFTY!!! … His main gimmick is TRUTH!!!! … A virtue so long removed from our life today, it’s unrecognizable, even if you step on it!!!

    • reunion says:

it has been so stepped on that it is subterranean.

truth to power, david to goliath…there are the improbable stories for consumption, & there is reliable denial of probable reality.

  23. Rocketman says:

The REAL reason that Trump was thinking about running third party thus splitting the vote and handing the election to Obama was that at the time it looked as if Ron Paul might actually start winning some states. Trump can’t stand Paul because he alone is the one candidate that Trump can’t bribe or intimidate.

  24. Pat says:

Bravo!!!!!!!!!! We’re on the same wavelength on this one. The GOP seems to be intent on snatching defeat from an almost certain victory. Romney is NOT ONE OF US. He never has been. He’s a good liar, probably better than Obama. Unfortunately, and awful lot of conservatives have fallen for his lies. Is there any hope? I don’t know, but I personally don’t have much left.

  25. Bradford says:

I watched a video of Dennis prager who was talking about the most dangerous thing to America.
The most dangerous thing to America is the Republican Party, congressmen and past presidents.
The Republican Party does not respect the Constttution, it has allowed laws to pass that are unconstitutional: the Civil Rights laws, affirmative action, the Johnson Amendment of 1954. The Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 was against American interest, turning this country into a multicultural nightmare.Abortion, Nafta, (remember Ross Perot) plus other trade laws.
The Republican party is a war mongering Zionist led party of Israel that is bankrupting the country.
The Republican party rubberstamps the social communist agenda of the Democrats.
The Republican Party has not represented the civil rights of its Base: White Americans. White America has no voice, we keep voting not for the republican Party but against the Democrats.
The reason Judge Napalitano was canned was because he spoke the truth.
Ann Coulter is a Propadandist as all Conservative media is, a way of keeping the white schleps in line. Not thinking for themselves.
The Jews took over the country in the mid 60′s and when Obama was elected they said, “We aren’t hiding anymore”.

    • Mike Ramirez says:

You’re a paranoid freak. There’s a little truth in what you say, but all crazies like you will speak a little truth but lots of lies so they seem credible. Take a pill.

  26. Joan says:

As a kid growing up, I was a flaming liberal because it was primarily what I was taught and how I thought we helped others. I stumbled onto the libertarian philosophy as a college student 30 years ago, and I’ve been a proponent of it ever since. It’s about respecting people as individuals rather than lumping them into this group or that group and painting them all with a broad brush in order to make it easier to hate them. That kind of thing is what libertarians work against, is it not?

  27. Edna Earle Crews says:

You have expressed my sentiments exactly. We are in desperate need of a true conservative if we are to defeat the present acting president. You have encouraged me to have hope that such a candidate will appear to win for our country!

    Sincerely,
    Edna Earle
