Another Republican Suicide Mission?
The Iowa caucuses spotlighted everything that’s wrong with politics in this country … everything that’s wrong with a republic devolving into a democracy … everything that’s wrong with entitlement-driven America.
Media cheerleaders valiantly tried to create a Super Bowl-like atmosphere around the Republican presidential candidates’ first test in Iowa, but I was so turned off that I watched very little of the coverage on election night. I make it a practice not to see bad movies more than once, and this was a very bad political movie I had seen many times over the years.
It’s a movie that always has a bad ending, one in which a villain disguised as a conservative finagles his way into becoming the Republican nominee, then usually loses the general election because the other side exposes him as a weak-kneed charlatan. But occasionally he wins, and shortly after he is sworn into office, he steps into a phone booth, strips off his conservative costume, and dons his bright-red collectivist cape.
(Of course, since there are no more phone booths to speak of, this year’s nominee may have to settle for a restroom — which, when you think about it, is a much more suitable environment for someone who is full of … well, you get the idea.)
The nominating process has nothing to do with candidates convincing voters that they believe in strictly adhering to the Constitution; nothing to do with implementing major spending cuts; nothing to do with stopping the government from bossing people around and invading their personal lives. It’s all about campaign strategy, showmanship, fundraising, and organization.
So, as Iowa caucus goers held their noses and voted, SuperMitt managed to emerge victorious — by a grand total of eight votes — over someone who was last in line to be the anti-Romney candidate. The idea that Rick Santorum did something miraculous is just more media hype. In truth, his rise was a direct result of the fall of the first four anti-Romney’s who were in line in front of him.
Santorum has been his usual abrasive self throughout the campaign, seemingly intent on challenging Barack Obama for Whiner of the Year Award. And since no one paid much attention to him until recently, he was able to hide a slew of sins from conservative voters, including voting to raise the debt ceiling five times, voting for George Bush’s No Child Left Behind monstrosity, and voting for the budget-busting prescription-drug entitlement program.
In addition, Santorum said he was proud of the earmarks he was able to get inserted into various pieces of legislation over the years, and, worst of all, he supported progressive Arlen Specter’s reelection over conservative Pat Toomey, which resulted in a crucial vote for Obamacare.
There are probably no less than a dozen Republicans sitting out these primaries who would have had a far better chance of being knighted the non-Romney candidate than Rick Santorum. The Republicans’ attraction to death wishes continues to be baffling.
If Ron Paul can’t pull off the mother of all upsets, Republicans will be on their way to sending yet another progressive member of their party to do battle with the evildoers in the other wing of the Demopublican Party. And, most likely, that will be MittMan, who, after all, has now been endorsed by none other than John McCain. Nothing makes masochistic Republicans feel more secure than seeing their presidential nominee endorsed by their last failed presidential candidate, especially when he’s an uber progressive.
Contrary to what some Republicans would like voters to believe, their field of candidates is pathetic. So much so that it’s possible, albeit not likely, that a big-name Republican could still decide to enter the race even after missing Iowa and New Hampshire — and perhaps South Carolina. Conservative stalwarts such as Paul Ryan and Mitch Daniels must certainly know that they could shoot right to the top if they decided to get in.
And, though I hate to admit it, the liberals’ favorite Republican, Mike Huckabee, would absolutely overwhelm this field of candidates if he were to enter the race. But, as I’ve said before, I think he has wisely chosen to make his hundred million or so first, then run for president when he’s in his sixties. What he doesn’t understand is that there may not be an election by the time he’s ready to run.
So, dear reader, right now we are staring at a professional political scoundrel, Mitt Romney, as the most likely Republican nominee. This is a man who couldn’t handle simple, straightforward questions from the terrifyingly ferocious Bret Baier. Which makes one wonder how in the world he would handle the second coming of Saul Alinsky, who will be thanking him throughout the campaign for creating the perfect model for Obamacare.
Oh, and one more thing. If Obama swallows his pride and has Hillary and Joe Biden switch jobs, as is being rumored in some quarters, no one will be able to beat him. Confused, unprincipled independents would flock to Hillary as though she were the second coming of Eleanor Roosevelt. Four years of Obama followed by eight years of Hillary (assuming Obama didn’t succeed in implementing a dictatorship) would make the U.S. look not so much like Europe, but more like the former Soviet Union.
I hope nothing I’ve said here will prevent you from enjoying all the media hype over tonight’s New Hampshire primary. Just sit back and savor it, the same as you would a good Marx Brothers’ movie.

It is a dispiriting primaryscape. I don’t think we can say, though, that “Republicans” per se have a death wish because more palatable pols decided not to run. Persons like Daniels have declined to run for whatever reasons despite enthusiasm for their prospective candidacies.
I had a good laugh out of reading the above blog for all the right reasons. Well done!
Of course, I rather think the Republicans are already wearing their “bright-red collectivist capes” for all to see.
Then there is Ron Paul: “A Vandal.” “A street fighter.” “Bomb thrower.” The preceding terms (complements) were what some of ABC’s commentators called Ron Paul during and after the Saturday Night Smack-Down in New Hampshire. A phrase which one of the presstitutes used that I particularly liked was “Ron Paul was a one-man wreaking crew.”
Like I said before, this is a two man race between Sh*tt Romney-vs- Libertarian Paul— the others just don’t know it, yet. Newt might hang on for awhile after Super Tuesday, because he likes to sell books and collect speaking fees.
If it hasn’t escaped your noticed, team Ron Paul has strategically played it out so as not to attack Sh*tt Romney. When the field narrows, then look out. Romney is going to have to go head to head with Ron Paul—you know, the guy who reads economic books while the others are watching football.
Without getting into the details, I think by now it is quite clear that Ron Paul isn’t fooling around. The gloves are going to come off soon, and “the street fighter” is going to work over Romney but good.. Will this then translate into a victory for team Paul? No, because too many fools still love to admire Romney’s “red cape.”
2012 is the year of the collectivist–maybe even the decade.
Resist it! Paul 2012!
The problem with Ron is that no matter how many bills he sponsors or co-sponsors he always votes against them. Can you imagine a President who vetoes every bill that he recommends and crosses his desk? Name a single piece of major legislation he has sponsored that has passed as a result of his work done on it.
Can’t.
‘Nuff said.
You have presented a bogus premise. Dr. Paul has introduced reams of legislation meant to undo the work of the ruling oligarchy. Of course his record of getting bills passed is slim. Every bill he has introduced, from bills to extracate our nation from the infinately corrupt United Nations to HR1207 “Audit the Fed” were meant to create debate and to bring these issues to light for public debarte. Over decades his efforts have paid off, as now many of Paul’s rightious causes are finally being debated in public. His ever growing army of supporters has made this possible, and are the only hope you and your family have of someday living in a free and prosperous America. You might consider joining us.
A truly great President is not to be measured by how many artificial laws(orders) that he passes, but how many he repeals and/or repeals–end of story. Of course the collectivist hate Ron Paul and won’t support his bills. What did you expect?
Furthermore, I love it when people accuse Ron Paul of hypocrisy–for example– by voting against all ear marks, yet putting them in bills in behalf of his district. You people who buy into this narrative should stop and use your head for something besides a nutcracker: Think of it this way: Let’s say I offer a bill which ends all taxes unless they are voluntary. Wow! A good bill, right? But instead, all the collectivist, spend-oholics in Washington say, “no, we want the current tax code.” Does that then mean I’m then a hypocrite if I take the deductions allowed by current tax law, or should I just pay everything in?
Well, compare that to Ron Paul’s situation. He wants to end pork so he votes against overspending even introducing bills which are rejected by the red caped-collectivists crusaders; however, if the Bill fails, and the people of his district have to pay taxes into Washington, then RP makes sure that at least some of that money comes back to Texas by having earmarks in the bill. I call it a Texas tax refund.
I liked Governor Gary Johnson who vetoed more bills than all other governors combined. This earned him the name, Governor Veto. It’s men like RP and GJ who have both the vision and backbone to face collectivism.
occam’s razor and self decapitation…..
What is this about Ron Paul voting against his own bills? It doesn’t make sense that he would vote against his own bills unless they are gutted or corrupted by evil politicians (a likely possibility). If they were destroyed by amendments I would hope Ron Paul would vote against them. That is what a man with integrity would and should do.
It seems that people cannot stand integrity in an elected official. Every claim people make against Ron Paul is a bogus attempt to get us to vote for some self-serving, evil, un-American substitute.
I have read things like, “..his foreign policy sucks..” NO that is one of his strong points. His foreign policy is more in line with the foreign policy of the United States when we were a great nation instead of a great super power. I have read, “..he wants drugs legal..” Duh, that is small government. When government starts to tell you what you can do and what I can do and what everyone else can do that is BIG GOVERNMENT. Big government and freedom are not compatible.
An idiot in the Nebraska Unicameral wants to put people in jail if they kiss someone on the lips without consent. Where do big government advocates stop? It seems they don’t.
mirror, mirror, on the wall…
its integrity the vain queen does bile and gall…
let them eat boar’s liver & lung…..all of them……..
Howdy 557.
Listen. What you said is EXACTLY why I would love to vote for Ron Paul… or someone with his principles. (Extremely hard to find in the Republican party these days.)
Ron Paul is BASICALLY what a Republican should be – someone who understands that all proposed legislation must FIRST pass muster with the constitution.
As the great Barry Goldwater once said, he didn’t see his job as writing new legislation, but trying to get rid of bad legislation that was already on the books.
P.S. Hey Rob Ringer, thanks for cluing me into Senator Santorum voting to raise the debt ceiling… and… George Bush’s politically pink, No Child Left Behind, You Don’t have To Be Responsible, Just Turn Your Child Over To The State legislation. Didn’t know that. Now I do. Thanks.
Robert;
Could you please see that this info gets to Ron Paul?
#1. In debates, ALWAYS give ONE example or Illustration of the answer. DO Not try to use terms like, Sound Money, Free Market, The Fed, Etc. The people have no clue as to what that means or how it effects their life.
Always take your time and only take on one topic at a time.
#2. Do Not try to hurry… They will give you time. Romney takes several minutes to give his resume’ on every question.
Illustrations are the ‘Windows of a Building’ … they bring in the Light.
Thanks Robert;
Mike Iamaio
what about people for whom the lights are on, but nobody’s home?
Up until Romney I have had some amount of optimism that candidates running against my guy, Ron Paul, stood a good chance of eventually self-destructing as so many already have. Romney has a strict religious code which has probably kept him in line in the wine, women and song departments. His vices are the political eye rollers, mere petty offenses in politics: lying and flip-flopping. They hurt him a little but most people just get over them quickly saying, “that’s just politicians”.
And many people simply do not know about them. There is a website that portrays a lot of “which Mitt” quotes illustrating Mitt’s “complex” personality in his contrasting quotes. It is actually quite effective to cure the voters that want Romney because they think he is handsome, but they have to know about it and want to go there to see Mitt say what he has to say then wink his eye.
I still hold hope for California and Texas. Californians are about 1 in 10 of us and are a bit into social freedoms (eg legal marijuana) and some still hold a grudge against Utah interfering with prop 8. Texas, another giant, is Ron’s home state where he was elected some 12 times before. I would hope Perry drops out before Texas votes. Both of those are states that are not afraid to go rogue against the rest of the country and even lead it at times. But it’s all very unpredictable.
Of course Ron Paul has to play politics with his fellow congressman. That’s the way things get done (or blocked) in Washington.Anyone who wants to see what a congressman from Texas has to do to please his district people should watch Charlie Wilson’s war. This is an excellent example of conservative Texas politics. Although Charlie Wilson (rip) was a Democrat, he represented a district, like all rural Texas districts, that doesn’t want a damn thing from the federal government except to be left alone.
make it a double-feature: “wag the dog” for dessert….
Robert Ringer: I don’t know why you left out Newt Gingrich. At one point you wrote positively about him. And Thomas Sowell, one of the brightest Conservatives (along with you), wrote a brilliant column about Newt, whom I believe is the answer to all your (and everyone else’s) misgivings about where our great country is heading. I believe it’s URGENT we get a smart, clear-thinking, tough-acting person who can turn our country around to its former greatness, and I believe Newt’s the only one who can do it!!.
did you see any of the contra responses to newt, on those days?
Ooey, gooey, tasty chewy inside
Golden flakey tender cakey outside,
put the 2 together and is it a good darn tootin
called the Big, Fig Newt-on (here’s the tricky part)
the big, Fig Newt-oooon!
the cognitive bias that is optimism has been bandied here already; safe to say that the perennial use of inaccurate tenses is an example. the republic is not devolving into a democracy; it has devolved. supposedly, the foundling nurserymen were dead set against that, but the cartelogenic allure is irresistible to the starving urchin types (no matter how fat they get) – emotional eaters, you know….
likening the political theater to a bad movie is more than tongue in cheek. and it begs the question…since watching movie is a passive affair that you have no hand in casting, directing (“what’s my motivation?”, “line, please”…), producing, airing, how is it that you come to play an uncredited role in the crowd scenes, from your private living room? if someone interacted with any other movie that way, what would you think? friends dragged me to ‘the rocky horror picture show’, years ago. once the idiotic audience started throwing boxes of popcorn, which landed all over the people in front of them, me included, i was done; i got up & left.
Where’s the graphics? Should be in your email lead-in.
What difference does it make: (R)ats or (D)mons. Put them all in a bag, shake it hard, turn it over, empty and it doesn’t matter who falls out. Remember Dawson’s Law: a politician is like a magician, what you don’t see is what you get. But the Second Hussein Regime is so corrupt that it’s in your face, no mystery only hype.
graphics? myself did paint a nice word picture; a con-stitution, bill of rights, repping vandal stole it…let’s see, which amendment does that fairweather befriend?
you have me flashing: an old method i heard about, somewhere…sew a miscreant into a burlap bag, along with 5 or 6 feral cats…beat said bag with sticks….creative destruction well beyond schumpeter’s thoughts; even those austrians can’t think of everything….
A good Marx Brothers movie, or a good book from Karl Marx?
Actually, that’s a non-sequitor, since there is no such thing as a good book from Karl Marx. But I’ll watch what happens, just in case by some miracle. Ron Paul is able to mount an upset.
As I look at the situation from 750 feet, the last time a Republican ran for President who was so anti-Establishment (in relation to party insiders) was 1980 with Ronald Reagan. Since then, the boobs at the top of the party Establishment changed the internal rules to make it almost impossible for a dark-horse candidate to win the Republican nomination. That will go down as one of history’s greatest blunders, and it helped speed the eventual downfall of the Republican branch of the Big Government party.
And as you mentioned, the doomsday event was the official sanctioning of SuperMitt by John McCain. Does the Republican party need any more evidence of its demise than THAT?
teflon is toxic; cooks who add that ingredient to recipes are poisoners, poisonees…..
the rules get changed not by the boobs, but to get round the boobs, move em’ along……
“it has been reported that i was seriously ill–it was another man; dying–it was another man; dead–the other man again…as far as I can see, nothing remains to be reported, except that I have become a foreigner. when you hear it, don’t you believe it. and don’t take the trouble to deny it. merely just raise the American flag on our house in Hartford and let it talk.”
mark twain – Letter to Frank E. Bliss, 11/4/1897
otoh, apparently dead vipers have killed them that opined obituary……
Really, Mr. Ringer, I couldn’t have said it better. And many thanks for pointing out what many, many other ‘conservative’ essays, web sites, thinkers have been too timid to share: Santorum’s vote for the budget-busting Part D Medicare entitlement. Santorum’s wife is/was a nurse; her dad is a medical doctor. What’s a Washington Pol to do???????????? Go with the flow! Just what we DON’T Need if the USA means to survive.
i’ve seen little women aikido big men into the air, upside down, and backward. just as amazing is seeing big men do it to themselves, physically untouched by an opponent…telekineticcontortionism……
he voted for the wrong thing? tsk, tsk, tsk. terrible, how often that happens. if the brigand was armed with a pistol, instead of a quill, or a chad, or whatever, would you know what to do, then? or would you merely substitute “pistol” for “vote”, and be satisfied by the descriptive accuracy?
“the sinew & heart of man seem to be drawn out, & we are become timorous, desponding whimperers. we are afraid of truth, afraid of fortune, afraid of death, & afraid of each other…we are parlour soldiers. we shun the rugged battle of fate, where strength is born.” emerson, “self-reliance”(1841)
i agree with you: “timid”.
The establishment must be pleased with the Republican party since their political investments are completely hedged. This of course has been going on for sometime but both parties have been taken over by not only collectivists but advocates of war and empire. Other than the Ron Paul Revolution there is no massive Republican-Democrat-Independent anti-war movement as materialised in the late 1960s to oppose the USA’s continual involvement in the Vietnam war. The American have accepted and embraced war and empire building. Kruschev was right – the capitalists would bid to sell the hangman the very rope which would be used to hang themselves.
how many missives does it take to make a massive? how many missives speak of, or even recognize, individual persons? such would be a permissive missive; i don’t think I’ve ever met one.
the establishment…the repub party…the collective…the rp revo…the movement…the americans…the capitalists….where are the individuals?
what if all those missives, not already bought/paid for/damned, became individuals, gave dismissive single-finger salutes to the massifiers, tended their own hearths & homes?
btw, “capitalism” is the set of methods and techniques that develop, organically, in a state of liberty. it is not an identity. and it certainly is not defined or personified by lowest common denominators, massifiers, (and profiteering liquidators of massed missives) like the rope sellers and buyers in your example.
… of course I agree with Robert…
but it is depressing.
If Rombama is elected over the “O” … what? O-lite will likely not do a few nasty things. But we will see numerous others to take the place of those omitted. Perhaps he will limit his economic meddling to merely move the Keynsian end game down the road. If not, so what. With the Left in charge, they will blame the “R” regardless of whether the chickens come home on his watch or not.
Rombama would be the last “R” elected in this generation, if elected. His administration would ensure a generation will associate the word “conservative” with the dictionary definition of socialist and fascist. Given the bias in the culture, the Republicans will be held responsible for all of Rombama’s sins and the Democrats as well. Just as “O” still manages to blame Bush.
So what’s the point? …
Learn to stop worrying and love a police state. (I guess.)
Maybe I am just being an optimist.
Obama’s “tempting to be a dictator” quote from Glenn Beck.
http://www.glennbeck.com/2011/07/26/obama-says-its-tempting-to-be-a-dictator/
dear right again robert:
thanks for noting the unpopular but realistic view that the usa is evolving into the old ussr….the bona fide socialist police state…
sooner or later…sooner if we get four more years of obama followed by the popular bra burner who used to lie and live in the white house..now she only occasionally visits…
from the gop we get the police state after 9/11…from the dems we get socialism….thanks alot to the socialists and the caretakers of the socialist police state in both parties…..
the lesson that the socialiosts in both parties are missing is that the old ussr went bankrupt…
ron paul IS the kingmaker here….he can run on a third party and sink romney outright……and make the gop socialists and media who like romney regret their choice…..
he can ‘endorse’ him but do nothing else(damn with faint praise)……..
or he can run on a third party and possibly(though not probably) win…..since he is the only peace candidate and could conceivably pilfer many millions of votes from obama also(there is nothing dovish about defense spending over 700 billion) …
my theory is that it all comes to a head when food prices and inflation from all the funny money printing begin to skyrocket making a mockery of the gov’t economic figures….at that point political leadership will be a changing wild card…
dear robert:
you call it a suicide mission…..i call it a bad omen that romney appears to be gaining strength…when was the last time a massachusetts politician was elected president?
1960!
since 1960 there was the nomination of dukakis….kerry….
and teddy kennedy defeated by carter in 1976 for the nomination! since 1960 the gop has wisely avoided that
people’s republic for presidential candidates….until now!
correction:
pardon me…teddy kennedy lost to carter in 1980….
but not as badly as mary jo kopechne lost to tippler kennedy, in ’69…..otoh, she was a groupie, which are only one caste higher than ‘the amerikan people’ to such to the manor suborned types…..
You’re saying that more Obama won’t be Europe. Lucky you! Being European, it is said to see how worshippers of capitaliust voodoo, like you seem to adhere to, blind your eyes to the causes of America’s present economic state.
If you allowed yourselves to see, you’d have to acknowledge that unbridled capitalism, laissez-faire capitalism – which some “voices of sanity” (!) on the internet obviously still is cheering for – is the Bubonic plague.
pretty funny, since europe, even more “capitalistic” than amerika, is in worse shape, and will be dismembered first……
I think O’Ponzi swamps Romney – no moron, er, Mormon will ever be elected president of this country.
But, if somehow, O’Ponzi defeats himself, not an impossible scenario, guess what – he is NEVER going away and will be elected again in 2016. In which case the next four years will be media-focused on O’Ponzi stirring up the pot (ooohhh) on the sidelines, while Romney lectures us that having a cup of coffee in the morning and putting a two-dollar bet on a horse race is what’s wrong with America.
Got the picture? – FDR lives!
