Who’s Not Paying Attention?

by Robert Ringer on Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Now I’m becoming concerned.  Just yesterday I agreed with, of all people, Barack Obama.  Now I find myself agreeing with John Kerry … sort of.  According to the Boston Herald, Kerry recently said, “We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on, so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening.”

Kerry is right … but only in a reverse sort of way.  Though we have a much more informed electorate today than in decades past, there is still a significant percentage of the population that “doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on” and is “influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening.”

Waiting for Specifics

by Robert Ringer on Tuesday, September 28, 2010

I was sure it would never happen: Robert Ringer being in agreement with the Duplicitous Despot in the White House. I can only pray that I escape eternal punishment for my sin, but, alas, I do agree with Barack Obama on at least one issue: Every time he says he intends to call the Republicans’ bluff on cutting the deficit, I find myself thinking, “Good for you. Do it. Tell them to put up or shut up.”

BHO is confident that Americans are too far down the road to socialism to turn back now. As a result, and thanks to generations of inculcation, many beliefs that were once considered to be moral, mainstream, and Constitutional are now labeled extreme.

Still Not Getting It

by Robert Ringer on Tuesday, September 21, 2010

By now, people should be beyond surprise when a tea-party candidate upsets an establishment Democrat or Republican – either in a primary or regular election. After all, they’ve had a year to get used to it.

Nevertheless, the tidal wave of tea-party-candidate victories continues to surprise – and upset – many media pundits and, even more so, establishment politicians. Every possible attempt has been made to marginalize the tea-party people as extremists, but I think it’s safe to say that that’s a battle that was over a long time ago – and the losers were the hate-mongering left and disbelievers on the establishment right.

A System Conceived in Failure

by Robert Ringer on Monday, September 13, 2010

Fidel Castro’s recent statement that communism doesn’t work in Cuba anymore was a stunning admission on his part – kind of a deathbed conversion to the efficacy and morality of freedom and free markets. It was, of course, a horrific blow to the far left, particularly in the United States. Here we are, hurtling full speed toward a communist utopia in America, while Cuba, North Vietnam, China, and other previously hard-core communist countries are moving just as rapidly toward capitalism.

Some may have warm and fuzzy feelings toward good ol‘ Fidel, kind of like a Charlie Rangel “retire-in-dignity” thing. But what about the untold numbers of Cubans who have been imprisoned, tortured, and executed since Castro’s takeover of Cuba in 1959? And the hundreds of thousands of Cubans who had to flee their homeland and leave most of their possessions behind?

The Campaign that Never Ends

by Robert Ringer on Friday, September 10, 2010

On Labor Day, I engaged in the most dangerous of all activities, jumping from channel to channel with the remote. Suddenly, there he was, the Presidential Imposter (“PI”). Forget the fact that the presidential election was almost two years ago – he was giving yet another campaign speech, this time in Milwaukee!

My self-discipline momentarily abandoning me, I got sucked into watching the PI for five minutes … then ten … then fifteen … until I finally became too nauseous to continue. In fifteen minutes of nonstop lies, hollow rhetoric, whining, smart-aleck barbs, and chest-puffing, the PI turned on his best street-thug accent and delivered a rousing tirade against villains of the common man – George Bush, “fat cats on Wall Street,” the minority Republicans in Congress, and a variety of other straw men.

What Now, Glenn Beck?

by Robert Ringer on Thursday, September 2, 2010

The way the media covered Glenn Beck’s 8/28 Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial is shameful, but not unexpected. That said, as clueless as Geraldo Rivera is, I’ll give him credit for covering the event extensively.

But never underestimate Geraldo’s ability to come up with absurdities. In this case, the absurdity was to have Al Sharpton as a guest on his show Saturday night – for the full hour! – to comment on the Beck rally and compare it to his own “Reclaim the Dream” rally on the same day.
