The Great Pretender

By Robert Ringer - Wednesday, June 16, 2010

The Marxmeister in the White House now says he takes full responsibility for ending the oil mess in the Gulf. He also says he wants to “know whose ass to kick,” that he “can’t suck it up with a straw,” and … well, you know … the ongoing narcissistic spiel – “I, me, my … blah, blah, blah” … day after day, week after week, ad nauseam.

Watching his recent performances on the Gulf oil disaster made me think about a monster hit The Platters had in the fifties called “The Great Pretender.” Little did they know that the champion Great Pretender wouldn’t even be born until 1961 – probably in Kenya … but, then, no one is really sure about that because no one is allowed to see his birth certificate.

Everyone but (1) those on the far left, (2) Bill O’Reilly, and (3) the loons (O’Reilly’s word) who have yet to return from lunch realizes that The Great Pretender has had a Marxist agenda since even before his pot-smoking days at Columbia. Names like Wright, Ayers, Lloyd, Dunn, Sunstein, Holdren, and Jones (both Jeff and Van) are well known to those who have taken the trouble to learn about The Great Pretender’s agenda.

As ever more people come to realize that the country has been hijacked by this angry young Marxist, many would argue that a better title for him might be The Great Reactor. Obama listens to the news – especially Fox News – then reacts to his critics by saying or doing whatever they accuse him of not saying or doing, or by changing his tune regarding something he’s said or done that offends too many people. Sort of humorous to watch – if the fate of an entire country were not at stake, that is.

Perhaps I’m getting soft with age, but I almost feel sorry for The Great Pretender. His flipping and flopping and spinning and twisting and contradictions have become downright embarrassing. He’s Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy all rolled into one. I admit it – I’m truly embarrassed for him.

Now, of all people, Mike Huckabee – continuing his swift turnabout in an effort to make voters forget about his slobbering interview of Michelle Obama (who, he tried to convince us, wakes up every morning frantically worrying about childhood obesity) – has succeeded in making The Great Pretender look like an incompetent, arrogant boob.

Hopefully, you saw The Huckster’s show last weekend. He paraded out one guest after another – entrepreneurs, inventors, engineers, and chemists – to present remarkable solutions for cleaning up the oil in the Gulf. It truly was amazing to watch the simplicity of the methods presented, as contrasted with The Great Pretender’s spending his time talking about kicking ass, wagging his finger at everyone, and bending over and picking up a lonely tar ball on the beach in his daily photo ops.

Was the oil spill really just an accident? Probably. BP America Chairman and President Lamar McKay recently said that it was caused by “a failed piece of equipment.” I’ll buy that, at least for now. But it doesn’t matter. Rahm never said that you have to create a crisis. He already knew there are crises popping up all the time. All he said was that you should never allow a good one to go to waste.

In the case of the BP oil accident, it was a slam-dunk. More to the point, it was like unlocking the door to the EPA’s cage. Obviously – surprise, surprise – offshore drilling is now out of the question, right?

So it puts a few hundred thousand people out of work (ripple effect) … so what? The progressive must do what he must do to protect “the people,” even if it means taking away their jobs and giving them higher gas prices to boot. What in the world would we do without government to protect us? (Hmm … I think John Stossel has repeatedly answered that question for us over the years.)

So, yes, the BP crisis will not be wasted if it results in an end to offshore drilling. Nevertheless, I think The Great Pretender is going to have to come up with another crisis – or two – before November to pull off a number of miracles for the Demagogic Party.

The Dems, of course, would have us believe that they can win because so-called moderates will pull away from Republican candidates affiliated with the tea parties. If they really believe that, it would be wonderful. But, frankly, I don’t think they’re that stupid.

So I, for one, I’m still thinking crisis. A manufactured crisis is much better than an unforeseen one, of course, because you can have a prefabricated “solution” prepared in advance. You don’t have to do anything that actually helps make things better for people. All you need are a few talented individuals to put the right words on your teleprompters and be good at pretending you’re making things better.

As I said in my article “The Ghost of FDR,” Obama has been following the dictatorial Roosevelt’s playbook to the T. In his 1937 inaugural address, at a time when unemployment was still rising (15 percent on inauguration day), FDR bodaciously said, “Our progress out of the depression is obvious.”

Sound familiar? It should. With the economy on the verge of total collapse, The Great Pretender continues to look his teleprompters in the eye and tell Americans how he’s saved the country from a depression and that “the worst is now behind us.” He always sounds so darn convincing when he says these things, but I hear through the White House grapevine that on at least one occasion after slinging this kind of B.S., he was overheard singing to himself in the Oval Office:

Oh yes, I’m the great pretender,
Pretending that I’m doing well.
My need is such, I pretend too much,
I’m lonely but no one can tell.

Lacking a really great crisis, The Great Pretender, hopefully, is going to feel a lot lonelier starting next January.

About a year ago, I was pondering over what seems to be a natural pattern; namely, Murphy’s Law and how it relates to great historical events. It seems that history repeats itself inasmuch as that in times of great human distress—such as the Great Depression— matters tend to be exacerbated by natural and/or man-made disasters such as the Dust Bowl. Correspondingly, the Dust Bowl’s modern day counter part is the BP oil disaster. I hear nobody else making that correlation, but I’m sure others must have noticed.

Actually, I’m starting to see some white hairs appearing on the President’s head. Of course, this white hair trend will continue, because, unfortunately, the BP oil spill is going to be the greatest ecological disaster since the Dust Bowl. Shortly, the all “pretending” and cover-ups on this subject will fall apart as the true nature and seriousness of the spill becomes apparent.. The vast majority of the public have no idea the extent of the damage that’s taking place. By the way, where is Fox News on this monster story? Far behind Drudge, Alex Jones, and Lindsey Williams—that’s where.

Overall, there is hope, however, and I see signs of it everywhere. For example, F.A. Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom” has been resurrected from the dead and made number one on Amazon’s best seller list, even eclipsing Glenn Beck’s Overton Window. Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged has been in the top one hundred best sellers for over two hundred days now; Currently it’s number thirteen. Now, if we could only get some of Mr. Ringer’s books back on the list, then we’d be making some real progress…..

A growing number of people are busy educating themselves, and this is a good thing. Why? Because the natural pattern of history points to a great war, a world war.

History shows us that first comes a great collapse, which is followed by a series of failed attempts by big government to restart the corrupt system, then, when all else fails……..war.

“When all else fails, they take us to war.” Gerald Celente

Thanks for the thought. Yes, I’d like to get one of my books high on the bestseller lists. It’s the rewrite of my 1979 NYT bestseller, Restoring the American Dream – now titled Restoring the American Dream: The Defining Voice in the Movement for Liberty. Pub date is Sept. 7. Please spread the word. It’s the progressives’ s worst nightmare.

I don’t think we needed Mike Huckabee to make BO look like an incompetent boob. He does a fine job all by himself.

I am SO fed up with the blame game. If he needs to point fingers, do it AFTER the crisis is solved. Plenty of help and solutions to the oil mess have been offered. Why are they not implemented?

    Politics.

It would really be nice to know whose agenda he’s following – and who is to benefit the most when he completely destroys the American economy. For that matter, who paid for his education and his house, and who groomed him for this job?

Everything about him is a pretense, beginning with him pretending to be an American.

All we can do is hope that enough voters wake up… so that his control over Congress will end this year, and his stranglehold on America will end in 2012.

I believe in the Law of Attraction…and that we as citizens must firmly focus on right-thinking replacements in Congress, and the emergence of a strong and sensible AMERICAN to take over the Presidency.

I think we have conclusive evidence that Michael Savage is a reader. He played just this musical excerpt while commenting on the oil slick speech on the oil spill. Right now is Wed 6/16 and it’s the second hour of the show if you can track it down.

I’m not as concerned about Obama being able to replicate FDR’s mass media control. In the 1930′s FDR was able to clamp down on news organizations, especially new media like radio and movies. It’s no coincidence that FDR clamped down on this stuff and Goebbels completely took it over in Germany. You might find the following article illuminating:

    http://mises.org/daily/3060

If there is one thing that separates our current era from the 1930′s, it’s the availability of a decentralized method of getting news. Glenn Beck likened bloggers and other Web 2.0 people to the pamphleteers that emerged after Gutenberg’s printing press took Europe by storm. It was that very decentralized system which paved the way for the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution which followed.

That’s why Obama looks like a buffoon when you compare him to FDR. The fringe media might be cozening up to him, but people now have alternative venues. Even if Fox News loses it’s edge and goes the way of CNN or NBC, there will always be alternatives to what amounts to government propaganda.

It doesn’t mean that defenders of liberty have to be any less vigilant or willing to roll back the Progressive agenda; but it does give us cause to hope that if we do lose this battle of our time, we may not have lost the battle for all time.

Where are all the outraged Liberals that nearly had massive strokes when Bush had his “Mission Accomplished” moment? The media never stressed that the mission of THAT particular mission for THAT particular ship HAD been accomplished.
“The worst of the (economic) troubles are behind us? Talk about depending on star-struck , I voted for a black man so that all our sins of the past are washed away, liberals grinning from ear to ear at the conservatives saying “See there, you said all those bad things about out hero, oops, candidate and here he has solved all of out financial problems”! He has? How’s that? “Well, you gun totin’ , ignorant church goers, he just told everyone it is all over”.
Now the next sound you hear is a very smug liberal childishly taunting you with “Ha, Ha, Ha, we told you he was going to fix all the damage Bush did’!
Do not confuse them with the facts…it just irritates them. They love living in the land of See, I’m no Archie Bunker. Because being compared to Archie Bunker is so much worse, nowadays, than being Marxist or a devout Muslim (whom he recently appointed to high ranking positions in his administration).
Ya know, I hold Norman Lear more responsible for our country’s downturn. Without
him ,and the many characters he created, we wouldn’t have the poster child (Archie Bunker) to let educate us in the fact that NOTHING is worse than being a conservative. Afterall…(chant after me) “We must be politically correct…We must be politically correct….
Use to have a saying, ” Better dead than Red”. Now it is “Better dead than non-P.C. led”!
Think about the bowing to the Saudi prince, can’t call 911 criminals terrorists etc. Afterall we mustn’t hurt ANYONE’S feelings!!! Bancrupt this country and trashing people because they are ( uh-oh watch out for the P.C. Police i.e. MSNBC) patriotic! At least we aren’t Archie Bunker, the Hitler of the new left.

    Robert,
I’ve come to believe that politicians and elected officials are nothing more than a consolidated external manifestation of the psychology, views, values, and perspective of the majority of voters in any given country at any given time. People get the government they deserve.

As our government accrued massive federal debt giving more and more people “entitlements” taken from one citizen and given to another to continue supporting the trend of citizen dependency on the government, so did the average American continue to accrue massive personal debt as well living in a fantasy world of wants should be satiated with immediate gratification supported by credit cards and debt. As long as the debt held out and the ceiling on the debt was raised, most were happy and all too complacent to point out the obvious..that we were all going broke!

It took the U.S. government 191 years – from 1791 until 1982 – to run up its first trillion dollars in debt. The second and third trillions got on the scoreboard much more quickly – each in just four years.

By the time George W. Bush was inaugurated in 2001, the National Debt stood at $5.7-trillion.

He ran up more debt faster than nearly all of his predecessors combined: just under $4.9-trillion.
The National Debt stood at $10.6-trillon on the day Barack Obama took office.

The unofficial (doctored) current U.S. national debt is now over 13 trillion dollars with no slow down on spending or reversal of exploding total amount in sight as the government keeps implementing new money losing programs and establishing new fixed expenditure programs that insure an eventual implosion of the U.S. dollar and economy.

Barack Obama as President along with a host of other outright Marxist members of Congress is nothing more than the natural outcome and externally projected manifestation of our own collective national psychological decline. A drive for all the signs and trappings of “success” and wealth without the self discipline and hard work that need to be used to lay a foundation under the continuation of that prosperity.

The scenario we find ourselves in is similar to the classic sci-fi movie ‘Forbidden Planet’. Our powerful, yet hidden collective subconscious minds created and empowered the growth of our current government as that government with it’s living beyond it’s means spending and accruing debt, is nothing more than a tangible manifestation of our own national subconscious and now that we’ve created and empowered this “monster from the ID” and can see our collective selves in a real and ugly form as represented by our own doppelganger government, naturally many of us are beginning to view this externalized and magnified “monster” and then reject that this government monster can actually be nothing more that a large external manifestation of OURSELVES.

Perhaps we are all “great pretenders” and now we are all forced to come to terms as the situation becomes more dire with who we have evolved into as a nation of people and who we have foolishly elected to represent us and the collective hedonistic and subconscious darker side of our national “id”. As a nation, we act as one organism and thus have a “group collective unconscious” which we manifest in majority vote elections outwardly in those we elect to represent us.

According to Freud’s psychoanalytic theory of personality, the id is the personality component made up of unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires. The id operates based on the pleasure principle, which demands immediate gratification of needs.
