You Lie!

By Wayne Allyn Root - Thursday, October 1, 2009

When Congressman Joe Wilson screamed “You Lie!” at President Obama, many liberal critics, political commentators, and media experts responded by criticizing the lack of manners and civility in modern-day politics. But I believe the opposite is true. The truth is that we’ve all been too nice, too well-mannered, and too civil.

For far too long, we’ve stood by as politicians destroyed our country, wrecked our economy, spent us into bankruptcy, and indebted our children and grandchildren for generations to come. The current situation doesn’t demand civility; it demands
rage. Why should we show respect and civility to the corrupt thieves who are lying to our faces and robbing us blind? Why should we show respect and civility to the very people who are stealing our children’s future?

The problem isn’t civility; it’s stupidity. We’ve been far too civil and docile for far too long. We’ve been intimidated and blinded by the power and fancy titles of our political leaders. We’ve accepted their lies without flinching. We’ve given the benefit of the doubt to the people in charge — even though most of them are criminals.

We’ve reelected the very people who have been lying to us and robbing us. In reality, we should have been throwing all of them out — from both parties. We should have been limiting our politicians to two terms — one in office, one in prison!

We stuck our heads in the sand. We wanted to believe they were telling us the truth. We might have cursed Congress, but we each praised, thanked, and reelected our own congressperson. We showed respect for Congress’s authority. It’s like a political Groundhog Day: Each day we keep doing the same illogical things (supporting the same incumbents who are bankrupting the country) and waking up the next morning hoping the outcome will be different. But it never is.

A half century of manners and civility has led to the worst depression since 1929, an unimaginable annual deficit of almost $2 trillion, and over $100 trillion in national debt. Our country is on the brink of economic ruin, bankruptcy, and insolvency, because we’ve been so civil, so naïve, and so trusting. We should have been screaming “You Lie” a long time ago.

Off Track Betting (government-run gambling) recently filed for bankruptcy in New York. The government can’t make a profit in the gambling business, but Obama wants us to believe that it will run national healthcare profitably? That’s a lie. Obama wants us to believe that we’re going to add 50 million uninsured people to the healthcare rolls and it won’t cost us a thing? That’s a lie. The government will save us money by spending trillions on a new program? That’s a lie.

The trillion dollars Obama wants to spend on government-run healthcare won’t add to the ballooning deficit? That’s a lie. Adding 50 million new patients, while losing doctors, won’t result in rationing? That’s a lie.

We can forever keep our present health insurance and doctors at no added cost? That’s a lie. Illegal immigrants won’t soon be included in universal healthcare? That’s a lie. (Even if illegal immigrants are removed from the new healthcare bill, soon thereafter they will be granted legal citizenship, thereby allowing all of their healthcare bills to be added to the government’s tab.)

Or how about cap and trade? Obama wants us to believe that a massive
multi-trillion dollar cap-and-trade program won’t hurt business? That’s a lie.
That cap and trade won’t put us at a competitive disadvantage with China and India (who won’t agree to the same rules and standards)? That’s a lie. That cap and trade won’t double or triple our energy bills? That’s a lie. That this massive increase in our utility bills is not a tax increase on the middle class? That’s a lie. That cap and trade isn’t an excuse for a government takeover of business? That’s a lie. That cap and trade is necessary to fight global warming (even though the last decade has actually seen global cooling)? That’s a lie.

Do you remember the original fairytales told to us by Obama? He said that his $800 billion stimulus bill was necessary to “save” the economy. That was a lie. Instead, it was an almost trillion dollar handout to his campaign contributors and supporters that did nothing for the economy.

Obama said we had to spend trillions to create 3 million new jobs. That was a lie. Instead, we wasted trillions and lost 3 million jobs. Obama said we had to spend billions to save U.S. automakers. That was a lie. Instead, Obama fleeced taxpayers, stockholders, lien holders, banks, and hedge funds to hand control of the U.S. automakers to the auto unions — his highly valued campaign contributors.

Now, GM and Chrysler are $100 billion government-funded welfare programs that just happen to make cars (that no one wants). Obama said that corporate bailouts would be paid back. That was a lie. Now, it turns out that we may never get back tens of billions loaned to AIG, GM, and Chrysler. How many more lies are we willing to accept while still being civil and well-mannered?

But Obama is far from being the only politician to lie to us. They all lie. Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, and Frank have lied about virtually every spending bill that Congress has passed. Bush lied about the war in Iraq and wasted a trillion dollars (or more) on his military misadventures, all while allowing Congress to break the bank on spending, earmarks, and waste. The leaders of the Republican Congress lied about virtually every bill they passed. It’s what politicians do.

Just don’t tell me to accept it anymore. Don’t tell me to respond to lies with civility. It’s well past the time for civility. It’s time for rage. It’s time to throw the bums out. It’s time to veto the entire Congress. It’s time to send a message to the spoiled, corrupt, overpaid D.C. political class. It’s time to vote all of them out.

It’s time for a political revolution. It’s time to increase unemployment — by at least 435 members of Congress (and every senator up for reelection). It’s time to say to every incumbent politician in America: YOU’RE FIRED!

In 2010, let’s forget civility and get loud and angry. Let’s fight with tenacity and passion. Because this is the battle of our lives — our country, our economy, and capitalism itself. Our children’s futures are at stake. It’s time to take back our country from the liars and thieves who are currently in control. It’s time to admit it to ourselves: THEY ALL LIE!

Please excuse me, the comment unexpectedly posted while was still writing. Here’s what I meant to say.

Great commentary, all true, with one small exception. When one solitary man stands against every evil scheme hatched in Congress over three decades, let’s give him accolades instead of including him in the cry “They all lie”. Of course I can only be speaking of Dr. Ron Paul. History proves this one man speaks the truth.

  2. Reality seeker says:

    Yes Mr. Root,

It’s not only time, but it’s high time; yes, it’s long past time the American people voted out all the ubiquitous “liars and thieves” in Washington. The problem is that I don’t believe anything close to that will happen. Yes, some, perhaps many, of the “liars and thieves” will be voted out in 2010, but they will be replaced with new “liars and thieves.” And yes, as you say Mr. Root, it’s time for a Revolution. I say, it’s long past time. I say, Henry David Thoreau had it right when he called for a Revolution over one-hundred and fifty years ago in Civil Disobedience. So the revolution that you’re calling for, Mr. Root, should have been done years ago; even long before Mr. Ringer wrote the book, “How You Can Find Happiness During The Collapse Of Western Civilization” that was released in 1983.

After I first read and reread that well written book, authored by Mr. Ringer, I immediately intensified my preparation for the coming day of reckoning when western civilization would collapse. The book validated everything I believed in—and it still does. The problem was that at first, like many others, I underestimated how durable the corrupt system was, is, and will be. Back then, I underestimated how long it would take for the system to collapse; and I won’t repeat that costly mistake of underestimating just how long the “liars and thieves” can keep things afloat. The latest example of how long “liars and thieves” can keep the system buoyant is the recent mini-collapse of the stock market, financial services sector(banks), insurance companies, and the economy in general. It’s all still floating right? Of course this mini-collapse is just a warm-up for what the future holds—which is what I call The Great Collapse & The Real Deal.

I won’t be caught up in all the crusades that are currently taking place. I’m waiting for the Real Deal(i.e. the real and total collapse of western civilization and the bloody revolution that will follow) . And one other thing: Individuals like you, Mr. Root, who are now calling for “RAGE” are misusing the term. Rage is an emotion for crazy or near-crazy people who’ve mentally snapped. Sorry, that’s not me, nor will it ever be me. I will patiently, coolly, and indifferently wait for the day when the inveterate “liars and thieves” cannot hold the corrupt system together anymore. We will all know when the *Great Collapse* is happening. It will be marked by a terrifying hyperinflation, bewilderment of the masses, and then anger. This anger will be followed by a violent “rage” when the masses start to become unhinged. What happens next?

    Revolution.

All the crusaders who are currently trying to prevent the inevitable collapse from occurring by educating the masses are like Mr. Peter Schiff, who recently stated, “During the crash of 2008 *I underestimated* the lack of investor intelligence when they bought up paper dollars and sold gold.”

I won’t “underestimate” anything anymore including the lack of investor’s intelligence and/or the lack of intelligence of the masses as a whole. Educating the masses to vote out the “liars and thieves” will fail to prevent The Great Collapse & The Real Deal.

My suggestion for anyone who has a modicum of intelligence is to skip the “rage”, the crusades, and the elections that replace one socialist liar with another. Go and immediately read or reread “How You Can Find Happiness During The Collapse Of Western Civilization” and other great books such as this one. Make great books part of your survival library and become erudite.

There will come a time to stand up for America behind the leaders who understand Praxeology, how to defeat socialism, and how to bring back liberty. That time has not yet arrived and those leaders have not yet appeared.

  3. Tom says:

While I strongly agree that ALL of our politicians lie and should be voted out of office, I totally disagree that rage and screaming is of any benefit. We can all be pissed off about what a mess we are in, but if all the people who are supposed to fix the problems can do is to scream at each other, we will never get anywhere. Try it with your wife sometime and see how well that works.
How can these guys be voted out of office when gerrymandering reigns supreme thu out the country and a third party candidate has no chance to win? How can we change anything when ALL politicians are paid off by lobbyists and corporations? Public financing perhaps?

  4. tall tom says:

You are right. Politicians, most of them, lie about everything.

You know what is even worse? Most people “believed” the politician’s outrageous lies as an excuse. In reality they knew all along that the politician was lying. They just used the lie as a fact to JUSTIFY their own immoral behavior.

I know people whom claim that their “moral” end justifies any means in the order to acheive it. They supported the outright slaughter of troops and civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan so that they would get paid an extra $300 of “their” money.

The public is so stupid as to actually believe that it is “their” money, when, the sad truth is that we are borrowing more than we all collectively pay in taxes.

So then you suggest abandoning civility? I am sorry Robert. We have abandoned civility about the time when we started bombing Iraq as a response to what four squads of Saudi Arabian troopss did to us on September 11, 2001. Do you think that war is civil?

We need to be ashamed at ourselves for “believing” the incredible lie that the Bush Administration sold. Yet many believed it in hope of robbing the Arabian Oil from the sands of Iraq. But that war was not about Oil, right?

Then we believed that we were “overtaxed”. Bush sold that idea to the American public. We had a managable $5 trillion that was contracting (Going the right direction???) during the last years of the Clinton Administration.

We needed to be taxed to get out from the burden of that debt. We had the opportunity to be successful. No…We, collectively believed the lie so that we had an extra few hundred bucks in our pockets. Sometimes Robert, taxes are not all that bad. It just depends on where the money is directed. For example, paying off debt is a Good Thing. After the debt is payed off then you cut the taxes. Prudence is a good thing.

So the Debt, under Bush, started to grow again to an almost unmanageable level, if not outright insolvency.

Then we were told a lie that everyone could afford a house. Yes everyone wanted to believe that lie. So they bought houses that they knew that they could not afford because the sky was the limit. Then the money supply dried up because the Government doubled in size and needed the bucks that were needed by the private sector for liquidity. Then the house of cards collapsed upon itself…because we believed a lie that told us we were entitled to a house that we knew we could not afford.

Civil? You suggest that we need to be uncivil to those in Congress, those in Government? Why don’t you suggest that we take a step back, look in the mirror, and place the blame where it rightfully goes? UPON OURSELVES!!! You preach “personal responsibility”, yet you do not want us to practice it when it comes right down to it. We can just blame the current Congress and the current administration for things that we did under the previous administration. Yet the point is that WE DID IT…TO OURSELVES. Need we be uncivil to ourself?

Good day. This article gives me the urge to regurgitate and defacate since it was so filled with VENOM!!

  5. Robert Bonter says:

Interesting, Robert, your “…robbing us blind,” observation. The last couple days I have been wondering; 1. Why Roosevelt extorting the people’s private gold holdings in 1933, did NOT turn around the nation’s economy? and, 2. Why, when the nation’s economy did turn around, thanks to WW2 coming along, why was not the people’s private gold RETURNED to them, in exchange for the paper currency exchanged for it, in the first place?

Do politicians steal from the people? Of course, rhetorical question, but the real question here is why, even BEFORE television came along to render most of the population zombie-like, and politically comatose, why, back in the 30′s and 40′s did the people of this nation keep re-electing a man who did nothing but lie to us, steal from us, and sell us out at Yalta, giving momentum to the cold war for the remainer of the century?

How can the label “Democrat” be a license to commit grievous, heinous, arrogant crimes against the American people, in perpetuity?

  6. Lisa says:

I believe the definition of civility is the act of showing regard for others. I also believe this is a two way street! Being civil does not mean blindly following. Being civil does not mean we are required to sit on our hands and take it! Speaking out is not an indication that we are uncivilized. It indicates that we don’t agree. You are correct, we have done this to ourselves. This is not just an Obama thing; it is our government in general. It’s accepting that our government expects us to make sacrifices while they line their pockets. We have all known this(to some degree) and (for whatever reason) we have chosen not to grab the bull by the horns. Shame on us for our part in it all. At least now people seem to be speaking up. Refering to us as “uncivilized” is an attempt to make us be quiet. The powers that be are not going to like the notion that business as usual may not continue! They have no logical, fact based defense so they fall back on declaring our behavior “uncivilized”. We need to continue to speak out. We need to continue to encourage other to speak out. We need to let the politicians know that we see the games they are playing and we don’t intend to tolerate it! Our government does not have the right or the obligation to conduct their business (of running our country) without considering what we (the citizens of the USA)want to see happen. They do answer to us! We just need to keep asking the questions.

You need to get a clue. Robert Ringer did not write this piece. Could this response be something you have had waiting to attack Mr. Ringer. While there is some truth in what you say about the blame being placed on “OURSELVES”, a better word would be ignorance. The American people are astoundingly ignorant. Anyway, I don’t feel like disputing some of the obvious wrong conclusions you have come to, so will just say, check out who you are responding to before unloading.

  8. jb says:

From the tone of his comments, Mr. Root is “obviously fed up to his eyeballs”, just like the “million plus” people that went to much expense, time and effort to make the “tea party” in D.C. on 9/12. However, it is foremost to “know your enemy”! Just who is Obama? Just who created this frankenstine? What is their “real agenda? Why the mindboggling, rapid pace? Where is this all headed? Answer: http://www.bilderbergbook.com – After a visit to this website, get a copy of the book and educate yourself with approx. 95 years of American History. Every American citizen that can read and comprehend what they read should read this now. Cong. Ron Paul is already aware of this information and, to his credit, has alluded to it on many occasions and has been fighting this most of his career. He may be the only “sane, trustworty, elected official” in both houses of congress. Lastly, If “resistors” become uncivil to the extent of becoming unruly, violent, or disruptive, that is what this “bunch” probably wants. Then they can invoke, by Executive Order already on the books, Martial Law! So, we have to remain civil, operate under the “rule of law”, by our Constitution, upholding it, and find the Judges that will also uphold the Constitution and take back America. It may however, take a large number of very determined people to undo 95 years of secret meetings and manipulations of every facet of our lives across the entire world! But then, that is the way this country was created. Oh, by the way, Mr. Ringer: the ad by “Stop the Smears” on your blog/website taints it somewhat and it might confuse some people.
