As I read your entry today entitled "The D.C. Good Life Express," I could not help but smile. I worked for a lobbying group during part of the Clinton years, and we made frequent visits to D.C.
My boss was fond of Sam & Harry's, a (very) upscale restaurant Downtown, and we often saw political figures dining there. Everything was so expensive and decadent, it's hard to believe now that while making less than $20,000 salary, I was "allowed" into such places. I probably got another 25% or more out of my salary, though, on the cigars and liquor (and Porterhouse steak) in which I indulged.
You are correct, the Beltway is as corrupt as any other place I have ever seen. From Congressmen to lobbyists, Washington D.C. is oblivious to the plight of the rest of the nation it "leads."
Thank you for allowing me to revisit some nostalgic, yet simultaneously eye-opening, memories.

Dear Mr. Ringer,<br

However, the 24-hour party in Washington, that politicians, lobbyists and bureaucrats enjoy at the expense of hard-working citizens, is enough to make my blood boil. I have to meditate for about 10 minutes before my blood returns to a normal temperature.
At this point what can we say. The thievery in Washington is obviously blatant. Yet, our “good” citizens put up with it. Didn’t Ayn Rand mention something about “the sanction of the victim.”
I believe total economic collapse is the only remedy for the decay of our destructive, democratic system—a system that is nothing but gang warfare.
Years ago, I remember seeing a cartoon where a man from heaven takes the elevator down to hell. Satan’s helper at the welcome desk says “What can I do for you?” the visiting man says “I came down to see my lawyer.”
Politicians, most lawyers—same thing.
The main thing a person can do to protect himself from the chaos that surrounds him is to look within for answers. It is evident that a person won't find the answers to life's riddles outside of who he is. “Seek within and you shall find.”
